Anelle This is a common occurrence on soils that are made up of organic
matter over unweatherd bare rock, like mountains.
In a couple of million years you will have great soil as your mountain
weathers away.
We have the same problem in northern Minnesota, were the soils are very thin
over solid rock. Used to be small mountains here but the glaciers chewed them
up.
Most plant communities that live on Mountains do not need overly rich soils,
but if you want to grow "normal" plants one needs to supplement the thin
organic soils.
