Re: Container shade garden?
Debra
I love container gardening. this year I have one large cast iron wash
pot, placed it in a bed getting light shade and filled it with 3 casa
blanca lilies, (white) 8 butterfly glads (red) , around the outer edge
of the pot I will fill with red and white impatients with some kind of
trailing plant, maybe ivy.
another cast iron wash pot, I have 3 Asiatic lollypop lilies (white with
a dark pink outer edge) I will complete this pot with white and light
pink or dark pink impatients with green trailing plants.
I have hanging pots of begonia's. you can use fuchsia, pots of
impatients, try a pot of the coleus for shade, lobelia, allysum,
geraniums, light green leaf wax begonia (for shade I believe) (dark leaf
for sun, or so I understand) angel leaf begonias are beautiful plants.
I mix and match most of my pots especially if it's a large pot. try
placing a pink light green leaf wax begonia in the middle of a pot and
plant blue or pink lobelia around it. try a coleus and plant some
verigated ivy around (there are so many differant colors of coleus) I
could go wild with coleus alone. I have a foxglove planted in an old
coal schuddle. I purchased one purple fountain grass plant and planted
it in a pot. I think it's beautiful. A new plant for me this year is
the toad lily, I bought it with a pot in mind, but decided to plant in
the flower bed instead, maybe next year in a pot.......
there are so many annuals to choose from, for containers. you might
want to check the Hibiscus, they make a beautiful pot, and I believe
you can use them in shade.
try violas, bergenia, hosta also makes a pretty pot, and they are ideal
for shade, caladiums, and don't forget japanese painted fern "beautiful"
well Miss Debra.....take a trip to you local nursery and go wild. have
fun and let me know what you decide on. I'm sure you have idea of you
own, and you will get suggestions from others on the list
happy gardening
