Re: A sikokianum

Well, Gerry, this has been a reoccurring topic on Arisaema list -
apparently A. sikokianum is notorious for this. Someone dug their
clump and turned it around one year only to have it come back the
next year facing away from the path. The suggestion of surrounding
this one with paths on all sides was rejected because it would
probably cause them to not bloom because they couldn't face away from
a path:-)

My one blooming size plant never faces the path, either, but turns in
profile to it...at least it doesn't turn its back on me:-)

Consensus is that all Arisaema bloom facing in just about any
direction with no real pattern nor any real reason that anyone can
pin point. Consensus also is that if you want an Arisaema to bloom
facing a certain direction, you have to grow it in a pot so you can
manually turn it to face where you want it. These plants have minds
of their own. In a mature and large clump of A. triphyllum, blooms
face all different directions. Some look like they are carrying on
conversations with others and some like they are snubbing their
neighbors...we shall never really know what goes on in the secret
world of plants.
