Re: Bacon fat

As a person with a background in healthcare and published in nutrtition, try
to avoid as much fat as possible - the hydrogenated stuff is the worst.
(Crisco, lard, butter - the more solid, the more hydrogenated it is.)
Cholesterol occurs ONLY in animal products, NOT vegetable oils. With that
said - I personally DO use butter rather than margarine, etc. But use it
seldom and use VERY little of it. And you can't BEAT olive oil to stir-fry
with!

With regard to family members living into their 90s on high-fat diets -
remember that most of them had physically active lives compared to how we
live today. Also, most had diets much higher in vegetables than we do (this
is especially true for people who farmed, and during the depression and WWII
when meat was NOT readily available).

And Narda is right about the gardening - the more physical activity and
stress reducing endeavors we have in our lives, the healthier we are!

OK - I'm OFF the soapbox! Sorry.
