Nancy, my tuberous Begonias grow and bloom well in deep shade. They are
great companions for the ferns. What any Begonia must have is excellent
drainage and protection from slugs & mildew. I grow all my Begonias in clay
pots because they "breathe" and prevent soggy roots. I plant my tuberous
Begonias, pots and all, in the ground after they have reached a good size.
The remainder are in pots on the deck or in hanging baskets amongst the
Fuchsias.

Any fans of these here? Just how shade-tolerant are they? Every time I've
gotten some from a garden center they've pooped out fast or just never done
much. This year I bought some much earlier under the idea that I would take
better care of them in their infancy than a nursery. Any tips for success?
Well-grown, they can be really lovely.
