tuberous begonias

Any fans of these here? Just how shade-tolerant are they? Every time I've
gotten some from a garden center they've pooped out fast or just never done
much. This year I bought some much earlier under the idea that I would take
better care of them in their infancy than a nursery. Any tips for success?
Well-grown, they can be really lovely.
