copper is quite poisonous to all plant life ( there may be some kinky thing 
that tolerates it)
we had a client who had incredible copper roof gutters installed.  killed the 
wahoo out a very pricey red twigged contorted willow, and everything else in 
the drain field.
herbicide reduce the competition from other ground covers, and "promotes" the 
conditions for the moss.
