Sometime arsenate of lead was added for insects. The entire mixture is still
legal in parts of this country but considered very dangerous for home use.
The danger exists in the product being sold as a copper dust to be mixed with
water and sprayed. There is a problem with breathing all horticultural
 chemicals prior to mixing.

Claire, back in the good old days when I was a student majoring in art we
mixed all our own glazes, guess what? The sulfates that you mention, copper,
lead and many others were used with no dust mask and no care for safety. So
sometimes I worry why I have no cognitive memory. I have had my blood tested
for all heavy metals and come out on the safe side.

I think that it is good to note that everything should be used with an
attitude of caution and after plenty of research to make sure we are educated
about the effects on all involved. My husband is a chemist, it always good
to run things past him before I try them.
