Service berry

The service berry is just now blooming here in Tennessee a full month
behind schedule. It is a lovely small tree that bloomed when the
circuit riders came through to hold service for all the deaths and
marriages that happened during the winter months in the mountains. The
Shad (fish) also run at this time so it is also called the shad tree. I
like it because it is so delicate looking but is a real trooper. Also
called Sarvis berry by the mountain people. Sold one today at a sale
and I love to give the whole history of each tree or plant, but, boy, do
I get tired.
