Hi Rhonda,
Redbuds are usually found growing as an understory tree at the edge of the
woods. They need a bit of protection from the full days sun to do best.
Around here they grow in heavy clay to average with reasonable moisture.
They are not a demanding tree and I have never had one die during
transplanting. The 3 I have in my garden are Texas White, a dwarf white
blooming tree of about 10 feet when mature, Forest Pansy which is a
knockout with large heart shaped glossy leaves and Oklahoma a lavender -
red bloomer.
