[SG] Red Buds

Hi Rhonda,

I really dread showing my ignorance. I should know more about Red Buds
because this is our state tree! But all I know is they flourish in sun or
shade. They multiply naturally in a wooded setting. It's beautiful to see
their pink blossoms scattered throughout the woods. I have transplanted a
young seedling to my front yard in full sun and it has thrived there now
for three years. In fact, this is the first year it has bloomed....I am
thrilled. We have clay soil and I did not prepare a large bed with extras.
It has tolerated this. Perhaps they would grow more vigorously with special
treatment, but I don't know.
Another fact about this tree is that they are very slow to mature....maybe
8-10" per year here.
