Your yellow flowering large magnolia sounds like 'Elizabeth'. If it is,
you're very fortunate. Yesterday I was at a nursery in south suburban
Chicago where they had 6'-8' specimens for sale for $125. They also had a
much larger specimen growing in their display garden - it was stunning!
Even though I have no place in my yard that gets enough sun, I was very
tempted. According to the nursery salesperson, 'Elizabeth' is just as
hardy & has the same growth habit as the large common magnolia.
