Re: [SG] Magnolia
Hi Forrest and everyone
I looked up "Elizabeth" for magnolias and I am sure that is what you
have. It has tight bright yellow buds in the picture. Then they seem to
open to a softer cream-yellow or something on that order. The tree is
very pyramidal but yours is probably too young to show that much. It
also says they bloom later than the other magnolias, in April and May.
Other than that unless I have a specific cultivar I wouldn't know what
to look up. There are probably hundreds in the book.
We have the biggest cucumber magnolia here in Waukon that there is. If
you want to see a huge tree you should see it. I think it is on the
histric register, I know it is illegal to do anything to it. The side
branches on it are bigger than most trees get. It is also 300 miles
north of its normal range and they estimate it to be 350 years old.
Bye
Bob
