Hi Clyde,
Erodiums are in the Geranium family. There are some that are hardy to
zone 5 with some protection. I have wintered over 2 kinds this year
but they were in my zone 6-7 microclimate  with a light mulch. Don't
know if they will survive an average winter or not since I was told
by Robin Parer that probably one would not make it. There are hardier
varieties. They like it dry and are basically alpine type plants.
Some are even considered succulants. There have been some discussions
of them in the past on the IGSROBIN so you might pose your question
there or look at the archives on Mallorn.com/lists.
