I'm very new to daylilies also but have learned a few things from diehard
hemoholics at the Long Island Daylily Society. If you divide them to less
than 2 plants together, they take longer to establish and have less
flowers. Try planting the little clump you have intact. I've heard that a
two fan plant can double or triple in one growing season if its happy.
Manure is its best friend - Some people I know plant in straight manure!

They prefer as much sun as you can give it 4-6 hrs I've heard is
best,except for darker colors which don't do as well with very strong
sun. In shade you'll get more grassy foliage than flowers. You could try
