Got you check for 'Rosetta Red'. Thanks. Plants arrived in good shape, and
I potted them up today. They arrived Friday, but we were in D.C. Friday and
Saturday, and yesterday we celebrated my grandson's birthday. The plants
said they didn't mind. Do, of course have a few comments. Will put them in
quotes following your descriptions.
Primula vulgaris 'Granny Graham'- A very beautiful double that everyone
assumes at first
glance to be an African Violet. Rich, velvety purple flowers with a
glimmer of silver
edging. Our stock is ever increasing due to its ease of producing offsets.
A prolific
bloomer. Doubles seed typically comes true to form 30-50% of the time, for
those of
you who are thinking 'what if'. Zone 5-6. 4" $3.95
"This was the only one with blooms on it. They appeared to be a purplish
red, fairly small double. Here's hoping they turned color because of
packing". Description says heliotrope, which should be a fairly dark true
purple."
Primula vulgaris 'Ken Dearman'- Another double, named after Ken who has done
mahvahlous things with primulas. This one has gorgeous flowers of a
bicolored cream
and apricot. A very floriferous selection. One large commercial grower
came to the
nursery and wanted to buy them all to put them into full production. I
declined. I like
the idea of having something someone else doesn't. (Don't we all?) Zone
5-6. 4" $3.95
"This, of course was not in bloom. The description on the tag says burgundy
flowers. I do hope not."
Primula vulgaris 'Rosetta Red'- Another beautiful double. Brilliant
scarlet red blooms
fill the center of this rosette. Long blooming. Zone 5-6. 4" $3.95
"Another year. Does sound nice. Sorry that neither of us got it!"
Primula polyanthus 'Mahogany Sunrise'- A gold lace selection with 1/2" dark
mahogany
flowers on 6-8" stems rising from a well rounded rosette of crinkle edged
leaves. These
are hard to find and very showy. Division increases your stock. Zone 5-6.
4" $3.95
"Sounds nice. Nice plants."
Primula polyanthus 'Yvonne Gold Lace'-A selection of Gold Lace that is so
fine, a patent
is pending on it. Unique, 1 inch flowers, deep red with a bright gold
edge, born on stems
of 6-9" tall. Numerous flowers at a time are positioned on the stalk. Ours
are blooming
for the first time and are very striking. Zone 7. 4" $4.95
"Assuming that this was what was labeled 'Himalayan Geranium'. Obviously
different from the others that were in pairs."
Primula vulgaris 'Roy Cope'- Another double that ranks as my favorite.
Large flowered,
of a clear, bright red. No hint of orange, just pure color. This has had
the longest lasting
flowers of any of the doubles. The individual flowers have lasted several
weeks with no
thinning of the edges. Zone 5-6. 4" $3.99
"Tag says purple-red flowers in June. That's about the color that I would
have described the blooms on Granny Graham." Plant doesn't look like it
intends to bloom in June, but I've been wrong before. "
Just letting you know. The main concern was how well they would stand
shipping. .... Nancy
