We have loads of paulownia trees in our neighborhood. We live near a
railroad track and one neighbor believes the Chinese who laid the track
probably scattered the seeds (inadvertently or otherwise, who knows?) .
They are blooming now and are quite showy. Please do not give this info to
anyone who is in the lumber business. Not that you know where I live, but
some of the neighbors would become irate if they thought there was a danger
the trees would be cut down. One time about 10-15 years ago the
paulownias in the area were extensively lumbered. I have heard them called
"trash wood" because they grow quickly and their wood is soft, but I hear
the Japanese prize the wood.
