Hello Marilyn,
if you are referring to your native Polemonium reptans it will be a mass
of loosely connected woody stems with roots. just ease them apart after
washing off the soil so you can see what you are doing. Then replant. you
may have to cut into sections... just watch for parts with active growth
and roots. Replant and water in. Do it every year in spring for nursery
propagation.
Must be a favorite plant this year. Sold out already and the season has
not really started.
