Second that motion on the "gardenway" type cart. Esp. useful is the type
that has the end that lifts off, making it easier to get bulky bags on and
dump them off. Could not garden without mine - both large and small
varieties. Problem I visualize with something like a sled on wheels is
maneuvering it around the garden, esp. when fully loaded.
If you really want something like that, what you're basically describing is
a dolly and they can be gotten - industrial type things as used in
warehouses and for hauling stacking chairs and folding tables for banquet
use - but cost more than a good "gardenway" cart from the prices I've seen
in various catalogs.
I also find my wheelbarrow incredibly useful - have the kind with the wood
frame and plastic barrow part - lightweight but strong enough to haul as
big a load of clay or rocks as I can handle....better for narrow or crowded
conditions than a cart...and, I've seen them for about $35 - much less
expensive than the carts. But, IMO, both types of conveyances are needed -
I know all mine are in use all the time.
My big cart has been abused for nearly 18 years with only a couple of tire
replacements; small cart isn't as old - 6 years or so - and hasn't had
anything replaced on it, so tho' they cost a bit, they are worth every
penny. I find the larger one has better balance, but the smaller one goes
some places the large one can't.
My Hosta are now only about 4 or 5 inches tall, so yours should be coming
along an a week or three....not to worry....you really want them to wait a
bit so they don't get frosted by late frosts like mine probably will.
