You need full sun for the best flower display. The more shade the less bloom.

I have taken cuttings in June and succesfully rooted them with no rooting
hormones. Also digging up suckers is another easy way to get your own. All
my lilacs save the dwarf are from suckers, cuttings or gifts. Each one is
special because of where they came from. They are easy to propagate.
