Lilacs

Hello; first of all, thank-you to Dan for the info on the Asian beetle.
Re: lilacs - my grandmother told me that whenever you move a lilac or
transplant a sucker, it will not bloom for 9 years.  I have found this to
be exactly true.  The lilacs I have moved are from her originals, and I
don't know the species; probably just Syringa vulgaris.
