The problem with pampas grass, cortaderia seloana unless the name has changed, in z. 5 is not just cold hardiness, but also length of season needed to bloom. In appropriate climates it blooms in nov. When I lived in KS I saw dead pampas grass every spring. ONly once did I see a single bloom, on the dwarf variety. The plant did not survive the winter. Laura 6a, Cleveland
