Nematodes do over winter where you are. The growing season is shorter where you are so they don't show up as much but they are still there and are spread when hostas are divided.

Hello; the nematodes don't overwinter up here. I don't know how long they
survive in warmer areas. The ads say that when they have consumed all their
prey in an area, they die rather than turn to other things.
