Anelle, I read once that Lupines, like Hosta, thrive in areas close to large
bodies of water, particularly (in the US) the PNW and the Great Lakes area.
I live close to Lake Michigan, and have not seen the plant utilised much
around here. I have tried a couple of times to grow the hybrids, and
failed. I was able to grow another type of lupine - Texas bluebonnets -
though they were rather short-lived. Considering the PNW's and most of the
Great Lakes's climates, I am guessing that the hybrids don't like extreme
heat, which we do have here.
