Aaaahh, John, and others
True, daylilies will not change color a great deal, but do change
tints, or hues, (whatever it is called within the range of color) and
daylilies in one part of the country are quite different in color
than in other parts of the country....I assume it has something to do
with the soil conditions, Ph, and other things like what people use
for fertilizer etc.
I also have noticed that within my own garden, daylilies change color.
...not drastically, but from pink/lavender to all lavender; from pink
to salmon; from cream to more yellow etc.
I also have heard the theory of sun rays in the north/south having an
effect.
Daylilies that are registered in the hybridizer's garden as called
pink, but here, they are mostly some shade of melon/salmon
I know this is more than one wanted to know - but I guess after
spending mucho bucks to get pink, and then they are not, I needed to
get it off my chest!
for the fun of it, I wonder what food coloring added to the watering
would do!
Bobbie B in MA who grows over 700 daylily cultivars and is a small
time hybridizer hunting for that mandavilla clear pink!
