I hope some of the shadegarden sages on this list have some advice for me. I am
in zone 7, (Georgia, US) and have a question about a hydrangea I planted this
year. I ordered it from a mail order plant company and so it was very small,
like a rooted cutting when I got it. It's been in the ground since May and they
haven't grown much this year - maybe 4-5 leaves on a plant, no taller than 6
inches. It gets mostly full shade and the soil I've amended heavily with
compost over the years. Here is my question. Would this plant benefit by being
potted and brought into the house during winter and replanted next spring or
should I let it die back with the winter and see what happens next year? Maybe
I am doing something wrong with the way I'm caring for it but I expected more
growth out of this plant this year and it's just not happening. Any
suggestions or ideas about bringing it in during winter?
Thanks,
Joe Rutte
