Re: [SG] Dry Shade

Clyde,

My understanding is that Krossa B3 is the old OLD name for macrophylla. Is
not that your experience? And that then it became 'Praeflorens' and then
macrophylla? All of these being a subspecies of H. montana. Or is Krossa
B3 another subspecies?

I have H. montana, purchased in 93 and divided several times since then.
The leaves have that characteristic montana shape, if you know what I
mean--long and pointed and just DIFFERENT from other hosta leaves. And
this plant can get huge--leaves 9" wide or more and 12" long or more. I
like to think I can always tell a montana hosta because of that elongated
leaf shape. I have not seen ssp. macrophylla, but presume it is just a
larger version of the species. Wade says it is 5 ft across and 3 ft high.
My plain old montana before I divided it last year was nearly that large.
