Re: [SG] fall planting

Re: Home made Stepping Stones:

Here in the Quad Cities area (Davenport & Bettendorf, Iowa & Moline &
Rock Island, IL) we have an annual "Symphony In Bloom. It is a
wonderful "Breath of Spring" around the middle of March. Hostas and a
wide variety of plants, trees and shrubs are forced into bloom/and or
growth.

My point is that there was a speaker there this year that gave a
demonstration on making your own personalized stepping stones. The
pan you use needs to have a slight bevel for ease in turning out your
finished product after the cement dries. Hosta leaves, ferns, colored
stones & broken glass (making your own design) and a multitude of
other methods can make up your designs. Let you imagination run wild.
The pan your use for a mold should be 2 inches deep. Use a ready mix
cement of high quality and fine sand for best results. Cement dye can
be used if desired.

Sound like a good winter project when there are no weeds to pull??
One might be in trouble finding leaves for patterns but the other
suggestions will do okay. Actually, there are adult classes that are
available here for cut glass to make your designs. I'm sure there are
various shaped molds for this type of project also. If you want to
use leaves, try this on a rainy day.
