Re: globba

Nancy-

I have several globbas....in pots and in the ground. In both situations they
began to emerge from the soil about 4 weeks ago and I have wonderful
news...these bloom quickly after appearing, unlike other gingers. I have
white dragon and he bloomed for me last year in late Aug/Sept.

To overwinter - Most gingers to go dormant in the winter but if you begin to
get cooler weather in September you could probably bring the ginger in to let
it complete it's bloom cycle. The trick in the winter, after dormancy, is
not to water--if you water too much they will rot. I keep mine in a
greenhouse window with very little water - I do water on occasion but my
winter situation probably differs from yours quite a bit...we could easily
have 75 - 80 degrees in December.

This year in the spring - I began to water and fertilize (with 1/4 strength)
about April....I increased watering with signs of growth. I did notice that
the globba in the pot emerged much faster than the ones in the ground.

Stay with your little globba and I bet you will have a nice little bloom in
no time.

Happy gardening
