I hear ya' Donna.... We had maybe 15 to 20 *drops* of rain yesterday (a
teaser) - south of us got a quarter inch, a friend near Mount Vernon, VA
tells me. We are under voluntary water restriction now, so after work I
went around, hose in hand to the worst cases - those flat on the
ground...grass is past tense. Ground is concrete and it will take a week
of steady, gentle rain to make a difference now, I think.
Bobbi, MD is having the worst drought in 30 years - don't know about the
century, but would not be surprised if this is not the case. Seems to me I
read in the Washington Post that water levels in the Potomac River were
nearly as low as during the "dust bowl" of the thirties...not good. It
also noted that trees are having a very hard time, esp. since this is going
on the 3rd year of low rainfall around here....reservoir serving the city
of Baltimore has 35 days left if there isn't any rain to replenish it...
Our normally idiot weatherpersons have started admitting we need rain.
Really gripes me when they exult about how nice and sunny it will be when
my plants are gasping! Makes ya' wanna throw a brick at the TV screen when
they do that!
