ours get he same problem as our evergreen azalea, ie
lace leaf insect damage, with the resultant, and secondary fungus from their
leavings

if you can forgo foliage, the deciduous ilex is a wonderful choice for
berries.  a pollinator is required.

how bout a small var of crabapple??
