Susan, don't know the answer to your question, but do know the white
variegated form is not as hardy as the species...managed to lose that
one and it wasn't even all that cold a winter :-( Pretty shrub,
tho'.
They are very slow growing, but if yours is the species, it can get
9' tall in about 12 or 15 years.
