The hellebores in the ex-fern bed were the little ones in three or three and
a half inch pots. I ordered three of the gallon size Heritage ones because
they had such fulsome praise of them. And then I got the small ones of the
orientalis and niger. All but one seem to have survived despite dog feet.
These are Old English Sheepdogs, weighing 93 and 100 pounds each. I've been
stepped on myself enough to know the power of those paws.
Oddly, the ones in back that were so small on arrival are nearly as large as
the gallon size ones. So that's encouraging. I started out small with
hellebores like I did with hostas because I hadn't a clue if they'd do well
here. This winter will tell the story, I hope.
