Not really a shade plant, but I just received some Centranthus ruber
seeds in the mail, and wonder if anyone has tips for growing them to
show flower color asap. I have pink ones everywhere, even in some
shade, but I want the darker maroon color and some white. So these 100
seeds from Thompson & Morgan are said to have those colors. I am not
sure how I can bring all the seedlings to show their color, but will
try. Someone at a nursery here mentioned a "Mud slide" method, with
newspapers in a flat, dirt on top, then the seeds and some peat moss.
She seemed to think that I could bring them to bloom in that? I have
loved these all my life, and now my daughters like them also. But the
more unusual colors are difficult to find, so I am trying this. They
self seed everywhere, so may be easy for me to start, but I have not
tried them before. Suggestions?
