Re: Happy Holidays!

Here at 3000' in the Sierra Nevadas in N. California, we had 14-1/2 in.
of snow last Thursday and Friday, and it is still on the ground. This
measurement was done by a neighbor who records rain and snowfall every
year, but I would have guessed it at a bit less, from the look of it.
But it was a good amount, particularly when I hear reports from places
which generally have more winter than we do. It is staying on the
ground, and we could get more soon, according to forecasts. A year or
so ago, we had four feet of snow in as many days, and since we are not
yet entirely knowledgable about winter patterns here, I am wondering how
to plan for problems with propane deliveries, etc. We are at an
elevation which does get snow, but most of the people around here live
in the valley where they do not have the problems. I guess in other
areas, people have already learned how to deal with their weather, more
than we have. Historically, this elevation has gotten larger amounts of
snowfall in some years, but it seems to me it is increasing here, though
I cannot prove it. I remember reading that if the earth's temperature
is getting warmer, some areas will be colder. I dont remember the
reason for that, but I wonder if anyone is seeing that happen anywhere?

Anyway, we were sitting here pondering the need for a larger propane
tank for weeks when the tankers cannot travel over our dirt roads, and I
thought maybe some weather watchers on the list would have some ideas as
to whether we are just experiencing random heavy snowfall years or some
sort of trend.

I wish everyone a great New Year!

Anelle
