Although you did not so indicate, I assume you are asking about Acer
plamatum, not Acer japonicum?

online. I would like to work on something over the winter and would like
input from anyone in zone 5 who is interested. I am trying to put together
an article listing all the Japanese maple cultivars people are growing in
Zone 5 (since most are only rated to zone 6 at the most/coldest). If you
have any that you have successfully grown for say three-five years, and
would like to tell us about it, I will put all the information together and
write it up. Then I can post it to the group for everyone's benefit. I
thought I might do an article for the Hosta Journal when I'm finished. I am
growing about 10 cultivars that I think are pretty hardy in zone 5. I will
submit my list to the group and maybe you can comment on any of mine that
you also grow, add your own and so on. Also include any information about
special care or where they are growing. Thanks, hope this will be a topic
some will be interested in. By the way, maybe you don't live in zone 5, but
you know of cultivars growing in someone else's zone 5 garden. That would
be great, too.
