Hi, Sherryl. It grows easily here in the Midwest, with temp. ranging from
-15F (not incl. wind chill) to 105F (mostly insufferable humidity when
temps. are in upper end of range). I have grown it in partial shade and
dappled ('high')shade, but not full sun. Too much dry wind sometimes
dessicates the leaves, which may be a concern in your neck of the woods.
Valerian grows like a weed; I did not find it necessary to fertilize in
ordinary garden loam and only watered during prolongued drought. I treat
it like a prairie plant.
