Hi Sherryl,

I have a young plant of Common Valerian that I got from a master gardener I
met this past summer. I believe she said it seeds itself around but is not a
pest about it. We're in the northern end of zone 4 so I believe it's hardier
than what you read. I too read good things about it (esp. fragrance) and put
it in in a mostly shady place where I am planting mostly white or pale pastel
colored flowering plants or plants with silver or white variegated folliage.
The soil here is on the dry side (top of small hill with sandy/rocky soil) and
under a few large oaks. I'm building up the humus slowly but I'm wondering
how the Valerian will take to it.
