[PRIMROSES] Registered Hostas

I'm a begining collector of Hostas, and being so, have many questions. I
don't know the right person to ask these questions of, so will offer them to
the "Robin" to see if they can answer.

#1. Why are there so many Hostas being sold to the public that aren't
registered?

I have bought some really nice Hostas, only to find that they aren't
registered. I have other perennials and all are registered, so of course, I
assumed that all plants for sale have been registered. My way of thinking is
that if they are good enough for the public to buy and put into their gardens,
then they should be good enough to register.
The unregistered Hostas that are being sold are sometimes hard to identify
if the wrong name was attached to it. I think that this leads to more wrong
marked Hostas in gardens. For the beginner collector, it's almost impossible
to get the Hosta correctly named for a long time.
I hope that I'm not stepping on anyones toes, but I'm really confused about
this whole process.
