Crocus speciosa and especially saffron crocus self-sow in central Illinois.
I have to pull up some of them because they self sow a little too much. The
only thing that hurts them is bad weather such as heavy rain during
blooming. Colchicum do well for me but some varieties don't do as well. If
I remember well they didn't do good when I first tried them. They probably
didn't get well aerated soil and I probably didn't plant them immediately
