Bananas have very few roots. What keeps them upright is the center of
gravity is very low because of the huge amount of water stored in the corm
and stem. All I have to do when I plant them out is to sit them on the
ground and hill up some soil around the trunk. Some varieties are much
more wind tolerant than others. Considering their size, they are
surprisingly easy to dig up kind of like digging up a giant canna. The
hard part is lifting them and carrying them into the garage. By next year I
don't know if I will be able to get the big one into the garage.
