Dunno about the midwest, Bobbi, but I grow them here in zone 5/6
(NJ) and they are absolutely carefree. Better than anything but
species tulips and crocus. As for cost .... compare the price
of a pacel of bulbs with the price of a few strands of saffron
in the store. :) Easy ROI.
