Re: favorite combinations/ J. Painted fern

Penny,
I guess I just got lucky with those Japanese Painted Ferns. They got just
about the worst treatment anyone could have given them! Except that I loved
them and talked to them, even when they only looked like dirt in pots (some
of you think that's nuts, the rest of you know how powerful that is - take it
or leave it).

My concern this year is the mild, dry winter. In fact, I am concerned about
the whold shade garden. Usually too cold to water, but from here on out, any
day well enough above freezing I am going to so out and give the area a
sprinkling, not too much, to get it hydrated or I am afraid I may loose
everything.

Try them again, Penny. You never know when something a little different will
work for them. Best of luck. They are beautiful and worth the trouble I have
gone through. They are small because of all of this treatment, and I'm hoping
this year they can really establish and do what they should.

Midwest Kathy (decided I really border on a 4 rather than being a strict 5)
