I have had old, established plants of C. simplex go 'dry' dormant on
me in late mid summer, during bad droughts and return the next
year...not as happily as when they get to go the full mile, but
alive. Finally moved the lot to a spot that, while still dry in bad
times, is closer to the house where they get watered more
assiduously. I really don't know what will happen with your
relatively new child. Think you will just need to wait and see if
anything emerges this spring....good luck!
