I think Aquilegia is planted outdoors in the fall and germinates in spring.
That is the routine of the many self-seeded plants in my garden. Sometimes a
stored seed will have the seed covering dry in storage and then become very
difficult to germinate without special conditions.
Many gardeners are not conversant with beginning pots outdoors in late fall
but this is an easy and often successful method.
Several members on this list are seed germination specialists and perhaps one
will speak on aquilegia.
