Re: cyclamen

Gene and ScarletSage: I find that the mini cyclamen that you buy at the
grocers--is this what you are referring to?--last for years and rebloom
consistently if kept fairly cool in winter and then put out in the ground
in a shady spot in the summer, at which point they go dormant until fall.
Some of mine have lasted for years. They are not immortal and sometimes
after thriving for 8 or 10 years will suddenly give up the ghost--but for
$3 or $5 they've still been a bargain. They come in all colors, including
a nice white and a beautiful pinkish red and I enjoy their scent, which is
sort of like apples. I have not had luck with having the BIG cyclamen live
over, plus they take up more room on the windowsills. Maybe there is a
trick to them.

Outside I have snowdrops, winter aconite, and even a few tommy crocuses in
bloom. It's been an unbelievably mild winter here. But Spring will still
be welcome!
