Re: hellebore seeds & fast growth

Kay,

I think 60 F would be too warm for them to germinate. Keep them in
the fridge which will be just right, and move them under your lights
as soon as they germinate.

Ernie and Marietta O'Byrne, of Northwest Garden Nursery in Eugene,
Oregon, sometimes have their hellebores bloom 10 months from
germination. They pot them into 4 x 4 x 6 inch deep pots as soon as
they have their first true leaf, with a teaspoon of Osmocote. That
would be about now. By June, they put them into 1 gallon pots, I
guess with more Osmocote, and into 2 gallon pots by the beginning of
October, at which point a few have begun flowering.

Those of us near the Pacific Coast can keep plants growing year-round
as it is not too hot in the summer or too cold in the winter. I must
admit, I have never had flowers the first year, but I have never
fertilized, and my soil is sandy and poor.

They are having a Hellebore Weekend at the end of February. Anyone
in Oregon should go take a look.
