Re: [SHADEGARDENS] Fallopia

In a message dated 98-02-05 19:27:12 EST, you write:

<< Nope - the real name is Fallopia japonica 'Variegata' -In the
polygonum family, it does not run like many polygonums --I've got in in
my catalog, along with the dwarf from of the plant, Fallopia japonica
var. compacta - The alternate name for this plant is Polygonum
 cuspidatum var. compactum.
this is an outstanding plant - it can take full sun, and grow 3-4' (not
the dwarf form) - the variegation is outstanding --- and the plant
really adds structure to any border - it's fascinating t watch it as it
emerges in springtime with pink spear-like shoots.

Rika,

I surely hope that you are absolutely correct in that description. Perhaps
you were not with us a a few weeks ago when we went around with that plant.
There were many offerings resulting in acknowledged confusion of taxonomic
status (I cannot believe I said that). Am in agreement with everything you
have said and because I bought one and gave a good garden pal another one,
please let it be true.
