Thanks for the welcome and the invite to 'jump right in'. I need all the
help I can get, as I have been in my present home for 3 months and the rear
garden needs a complete overhaul. I am also somewhat of a novice gardener
and would be glad of any advice.
The size is (estimated) 22ft x 18ft and the majority of it is shaded either
all or most of the day by the house. There are also two 12ft conifers very
close to the property (will this be a problem?) and hopefully the garden
will be completely fenced off in the very near future.
I would like a water feature, but am concerned as it will be in a quite
shaded position. Are there any water/bog plants that thrive in shade?
I am clearing away the lawn to have a patio area, surrounded by raised
beds. My husband is demanding a shed and I would like a very small
greenhouse/lean-to.
As my actual planting area is going to be rather small, I am going to plant
upwards, anyone and ideas for good, reliable, easy climbers?
I would prefer a perfumed garden, with lots of flowers for cutting and good
foliage.
At present I have identified a Camellia, a few Lily-of-the-Valley, Crocus,
Choisya, Philadelphus, a hardy Fuschia, Euonymus (1 green & 1 variegated),
Narcissus, Skimmia, and Fatsia. Will all these plants be ok to move
around?
Any advice will be much appreciated,
Thanks
