We are in deer country, and have a huge hemlock hedge. I've never seen any sign
of the deer showing interest in it. Maybe the horticultural oil we apply for the
wooly adelgids discourages them. (I tend to doubt it, since it only goes on twice
a year.)
Hemlock seems to grow only from the tips, so cutting the tips forces the growth in
other directions. But I get no new growth on old wood, only from tips that
escaped cutting.
